Arnold K. Underwood St. Albans, VT Funeral Services for Arnold K. Underwood, who passed away Wednesday, August 2, 1011 was held Monday, August 8, 2011 at 11:00 AM in St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in St. Albans with the Reverend Larry Graves, a nephew from Demoine, Iowa and Reverend Dr. Marguerite Gage, Pastor, co-officiating. A special tribute was accorded the Marine Corp Veteran by the Veterans Services Honor Guard of Green Mountain Post # 1 American Legion and Robert E. Glidden Post # 758 VFW, escorted by the American the Sergeant at Arms and Flag Bearer Honore “Bud†Bechard, who also led the Honor Guard in giving the “Final Salute†at the close of the funeral. The organist was Michael Olmsted and soloist was Jeanne Begnoche. The special hymns selected included, “What A Friend We Have in Jesusâ€, “Softly and Tenderlyâ€, “Precious Lord Take My Handâ€, “Abide With Meâ€, “In The Gardenâ€, “One Day At A Timeâ€, “Sweet Hour Of Prayerâ€, “Amazing Grace†and the “Marine Corp Hymnâ€. The Eulogy and Homily was delivered by Reverend Graves, with several family members and friends sharing personal memories. The Holy Scripture Lessons were proclaimed by Reverend Dr. Gage. A poem, entitled the “Old Farmer’s Prayer†was read by a cousin, Martha Rocheleau. Attending were delegations from the Abbey Group, Richard’s Sauces, First Baptist Church of St. Albans, Bushey Road Neighbors, Ladies of St. Paul’s Mission Society and area dairy farmers. Immediately following the Funeral, the St. Paul’s united Methodist Church Women Mission Society hosted a luncheon in the fellowship hall. The interment with Military Honors was held at the family lot in the Riverside Cemetery in Swanton, with committal prayers offered by Reverend Graves. The Robert H. Vincelette Marine Corp Detachment Honor Guard was present with Commandant, Richard Warren, Chaplain, Fred McMahon, Sr., and Laurent L’Esperance. Also present was the U. S. Army Guard Military Funeral Honor Guard. First Sergeant Daniel Landry and Sergeant Angelo Pasquale folded the American Flag, which was presented to Mrs. Elaine Underwood by Commandant Warren. Taps were played by Bugler, Sergeant Pasquale. The casket bearers were Matthew Underwood, Leon Graves, Patrick Loiselle, Logan Underwood, Jeffrey Graves, Gary Underwood and Steven Rocheleau. Assisting the family was the staff of the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans.
