St. Albans Bay – Anthony “Tony†Baker, 77, a lifelong area resident, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010, at the Northwestern Medical Center. He was born in St. Albans August 13, 1933, the son of the late Harry and Lillian (Tebo/Thibault) Baker. On February 8, 1964, Tony married Alice Hatin in Holy Angels Church. Alice survives him. For 44 years, Tony was a mechanical service technician, first for Simpson Motors, Inc., at the service station and then as head technician in the garage. He then went to Champlain Chevrolet, and finally for 20 years at Handy Pontiac until his retirement in 1995. Tony was an avid bowler and held the Vermont State Championship for Candlepin Bowling for 5 years. He received his award on television by Tony Adams, Channel 3 Sports Director. He was a member of the National Bowling Association, Twilight League Men’s Softball Team, and VAST snowmobilers. He coached Little League Baseball for many years. Tony was a “Bay Rat†and loved the 70 plus years at the old homestead at St. Albans Bay. He loved to hunt and fish in both the summer and winter. He was a bowling coach for the Special Olympics for 28 years. He enjoyed water skiing and snowmobiling, and was a former member of Champlain Country Club. In addition to Alice, his wife of 46 years, he is survived by his daughter, Debbie Curran and her husband, Phil , his son, Frank Baker and his wife, Tammy, as well as 4 granddaughters, 1 great granddaughter, and 1 great granddaughter soon to arrive. He also leaves a sister-in-law, Jeanette Cushing, a stepdaughter, 4 step grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Tony was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Roger, and four sisters, Veronica Baker, Lillian Root, Annette Mylius and Eileen Robtoy. A funeral service will be held on Monday at 2:00 P.M. in the Heald Funeral Chapel. Tony’s family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from noon until the time of the funeral. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the St. Albans Maple Leafs Special Olympics, c/o Alice Baker, Secretary, P.O. Box 6, St. Albans Bay, VT 05481.
