St. Albans - Barbara F. Helmer, 77, passed away Monday evening, May 28, 2012, at the Northwestern Medical Center with her husband, Tom and friend, Barbara at her side. She was born on April 15, 1935, in New York City. Barbara was the daughter of the late Anson and Elise Garfield.
At the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Waikiki Beach Hawaii, Barbara married Thomas Helmer, who survives her.
Barbara worked for many years as a supervisor at Caldor Department Stores and Sears in New Jersey. She then owned and operated a Carvel Ice Crème Shop in New Jersey. She enjoyed needle point, knitting and sewing.
Survivors include her husband of 29 years, Tom of St. Albans; her sons, George Roberts of New York City and Keith Roberts of Daytona, Florida; her daughters, Pamela Nicholias of Mendham, New Jersey and Lynn Gordon of Irasburg, Vermont; her grandchildren, Greg, Brian, Georgie, Travis, Jennifer, Christine and Andrew. Barbara is also survived by a special friend, Barbara Day of St. Albans and her feline companion, Buffy,
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, June 1, 2012, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans.
